What did Rahman Baba look like?
March 14, 2009
Most people in the NWFP think that Rahman looked something like this picture below:

Traditional Rahman
Of course we don’t really know what he looked like. Maulana Bijili Gar says that he looked in the tomb and saw him when they moved his grave to the new mazar. Perhaps he knows what he looks like.
Interestingly one hand copied version of the Diwan has this sketch in the front:

The only picture of Rahman
What do you think?

Got something to say?

Dear Imdad (Asalam-o-Alaikum),
I hope you will be in the best of your health and high spirit. I really appreciate your effort and work to bring the Poetry of Pushto poet Rehman Baba into the electronic media. No doubt Rehman bab was a great philosopher and great poet of the history in the subcontinent. I will request you to bring this historical poetry both in English, Urdu and also Pushto version into facebook and other most used websites.
Thanks & regards

Great idea. We need to spread the poetry more.
Live bound and busy;
With prayer and blessings.
Be kneeling like the sky,
And prostrate like the earth.
Everything praises God
In song, like David.
If one is alert, he’ll definitely
Hear this music from every side.
If one becomes a servant like Ayāz;
Mehmūd will be even prouder of you.
Every means of good and bad
Are available and present.
If you are wise, distinguish
The do’s from the don’ts.
Unless burnt in the fire like spund,
The smell of aloes has no pungency.
Rinse yourself from impurity,
Like the vast sea.

The efforts regarding to respect the peoptry of Rehman Ba Ba is idea to be respected. Actually the name of the poet is great and his Nation (Pathan/Pashtoon) is still lacking behind to understand him in the outercore. His inner core understading need centuries since the time of mine and yours is hijacked by the imperialism and other dirty philosiphies which left us all to be away from nice bookish information like that of Ba Ba.
We may kindly continue to expose him more in our families .His message for young,for a woman,for anybody be kept in our home shelves so that it attract the reader and alternatively we must negate the watching of TVs for character damaging movies which not only waste our valuable time but also detain us from reading the golden words of charactered people like Ba Ba. His soul will be very angry that his all life was to help his nation through his kalam but the nation is still,stateless,tongeless, voiceless and after all illeterate
God bless all pathan/pashtoon
